Monday blues

If MS Word crashes again whilst I am trying to update my work I will scream! I seem to be in a constant cycle of crashes, my own groundhog day. Now to result to plan b, I will open a new document and cut and paste from the offending doc. {2 minutes later} That’s better, it now seems to be playing. Good Word!, nice Word!

The house now seems quite empty now Évi’s sister has gone back to Switzerland. Évi will miss the Hungarian conversation, at least I have the spare room back. This, if you do not know, is where the PC is. I now plan to concentrate on converting my site to PHP. My planned new look is finished and I now plan to divide it up to create a template. Hopefully things will come along in the next few weeks.

Anyway must dash. BFN.

To be honest the main reason I am posting this is to test out my flickr account. It seems to be working OK.

An altar in one of the many chapels in Winchester, which I believe is dedicated to Anglers - so this picture is dedicated to my Dad - a dedicated carp fisherman.

Russian weather forecasters fined

Friday, February 25th, 2005

In Russia there is talk that the weather forecasters who wrongly predicted the recent bad weather will be fined. I first thought this was a bit harsh, after all to err is human as they say, but on reflection I am thinking that many people are fined for not doing their job properly.

Mayor Yury Luzhkov promised to punish the Moscow weather service for what he said were unreliable forecasts that frustrated the work of various municipal services and disrupted people’s plans. Speaking at the weekly meeting of the city government on Tuesday, the mayor said the Moscow Weather Bureau would receive no more funding until it signed an agreement with the city that introduced “financial responsibility,” allowing the city to impose penalties for inaccurate forecasts.

Talking about the weather, it always amazes me how the whole of the UK grinds to a halt when we have a little snow. Why are schools closed? In Hungary the only time they close is when the pupils and teachers cannot physically get to the school, i.e. 10 foot snow drifts!

WordPress

Its been a while so a quick update first. I passed my IMLC last week, the course took three weeks but wasn’t too bad. It was even fun in some places!

I have now converted the blog from Greymatter to WordPress. However there is still one teething problem, as I need to update WP from 1.2 to 1.5. Why did you not just upgrade to 1.5 first of all I hear you ask. Well the answer lies in my old Greymatter blog, I did not want to lose the entries from this and I knew WP could convert into the new blog however this did not work when I tried the new WP 1.5 version, so after a bit of investigation and a forum post I found it would be prudent to go back to version 1.2 (which had a proven track record of converting GM to WP), then upload the GM blog and then upgrade to 1.5. At the moment I have uploaded my GM blog to 1.2 and I will upgrade to 1.5 tonight. Fingers crossed.
