I am a member of a few forums, and it always suprises me how much information you can gleam from asking the right questions. For instance someone on indiamike asked a question on what the hotel Évi and I are staying at in Goa is like. From the replies I could gauge that the hotel is ideal and is in the perfect location. This is always reassuring when you are going to a new hotel in a new country.

I have also had a few problems when I converted this blog from Greymatter to Wordpress. Again, adding a post to their forum soon solved the problem.

Talking of Wordpress, I have been very impressed in what I can do using this powerful tool. I have also learnt more PHP code, which I can put to good use when I finally upgrade my main site to PHP. Trouble is I have so much to do at the moment. I also want to put a few photos up from the time Andi, Évi’s sister, stayed. I will get around to it!

Yesterday I received an e-mail informing me of a Hungarian restaurant in Aberdeen. I need to get some more info on the restaurant and add it to my site. It’s good to know that people are viewing these pages and feedback is always welcome.

WordPress

Its been a while so a quick update first. I passed my IMLC last week, the course took three weeks but wasn’t too bad. It was even fun in some places!

I have now converted the blog from Greymatter to WordPress. However there is still one teething problem, as I need to update WP from 1.2 to 1.5. Why did you not just upgrade to 1.5 first of all I hear you ask. Well the answer lies in my old Greymatter blog, I did not want to lose the entries from this and I knew WP could convert into the new blog however this did not work when I tried the new WP 1.5 version, so after a bit of investigation and a forum post I found it would be prudent to go back to version 1.2 (which had a proven track record of converting GM to WP), then upload the GM blog and then upgrade to 1.5. At the moment I have uploaded my GM blog to 1.2 and I will upgrade to 1.5 tonight. Fingers crossed.

What’s happening in the world of us

Hello all, well it’s nearly the end of the first month of this new year. Starting on Sunday I have a three week course to ‘attend’, I use the word attend in its most loose term as one thing it is not is an attendence course. It is times like this I wish I was 3 weeks older!

I have been working on a new design for this site which I am to use as a template when I update the site to PHP after my course. If you are interested in how it looks then click here.

Wish me well for my course :)

Take care

December already…

Yes I know I have not written in a while. I have been busy learning PHP thanks to ‘PHP for the World Wide Web’ by Larry Ullman (Peachpit Press). I am slowly following the examples in the book and seem to be actually learning something :P . However I still am not sure what an array is ,

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my blogging software. Everyother application seems to have more bells and whistles, and I want to play with these bells and whistles.

Things I have been doing behind the scene is playing with some of the sites code to try to gain a more fluid feel. I have also updated the Hungarian restaurant page, adding two restaurants in London. On the 7th (Évi’s and my wedding anniversary) we may visit the one in Hampstead. It seems it is not to far from Baker Street. I have also added a page for Hungarian shops within England.

One thing I have been very impressed with is Firefox. It is now my default browser, and I feel exposed when I use IE now. IE seems to have so many security flaws that certain people want to exploit. Also on Firefox I added the web developer tools which are fantastic. I can edit my CSS on the fly and all sorts. Simply brilliant. Another add-on I have installed is IE view, now if I encounter a site which does not render according to valid code I can right click, select IE view, and IE will spring into action with the URL at the ready. This is also useful for design purposes.

Anyway, I better get back to it. Signing off now…

Site design

At last I have added a guestbook script which maintains the style of this site. It was not easy as I had to overcome some file permission/path problems. I must admit I am already thinking of ideas of how to change the appearance of the site. I do get bored easily. I must first add some more content and complete the validation of the site first. I have also been moving away from using tables in my designs, there are even pages out there without them  nem rossz!
